At this point in a child’s life this is where the fun starts. This is when curiosity and a desire to try everything takes hold. Toddlers have boundless energy. They want to play and then play some more. So, we sneak learning into all that play through art, math, and language games. We also demonstrate, by example, how to share and how to value friends and classmates.
Along with you, the parents/guardians, we also teach toddlers how to use a potty. We don’t force this on them, instead we watch for signs of development and ease them into the new ritual.
This is a time when amazing intellectual and developmental strides are made and we are here to help them on their way.

The Toddler Program
2 YEARS TO 3 YEARS
Toddlers become more aware of themselves and their ability to make things happen.
They also begin to experience themselves as more powerful, creative doers. To channel, challenge and enhance their new found ability we use the New York State learning standards for English language arts, Mathematics, Science and Technology, Health and Physical Education, Social Studies, and Art, along with the following programs:
FLASH CARDS – Used to teach the distinction between shapes, sequencing, and phonics.
CIRCLE TIME – Teachers place their class in a circle and then read the children a story. The students then react to the story and/or enact what they just heard.
NAPS – At this point in their lives, children still need time during the day when they can sleep, and replenish all that energy.
ART – Two times per week teachers with degrees in art education come to Avalon Childcare to teach children in the Toddler, Pre – K, and Kindergarten programs.
The children learn about shapes, color, placement, techniques, dexterity, and accomplishment, all while having a lot of fun.
Projects involve some of the following:
- Finger painting
KINDERTOTS – KINDERDANCE is a developmental dance movement and gymnastics program with an emphasis on gross motor development, physical fitness, and movement education. It is aimed at children ages 3 – 5 and designed to help children build confidence as well as self esteem while having fun dancing.
KINDERTOTS incorporates all the elements of the Kinderdance program but it is designed for toddlers and develops the total child through movement, physical development, and body awareness while teaching toddlers about numbers, colors, shapes, and songs
